Services / Post-adoption services
Adopting your new zoning code isn't the end of your code update.
A code only works if the people administering it can use it with confidence. Implementation support is built into every ZoneCo rewrite, and it is available on its own for codes we didn't write.
The first year matters most
The first applications under a new code set the precedents. The first staff reports set the tone. The first board decisions test whether the findings and criteria hold up. We stay through that period so the code is administered the way it was written.
What we provide
- A transition memorandum explaining what changed, why, and how pending applications are handled
- Staff training on the structure of the code, the review tracks, and how to write findings tied to the new criteria
- Board, commission, and council training on their roles under the new code (see also our board and commission trainings)
- Plain-language user guides, application checklists, and process flowcharts for applicants
- A digital code format, and coordination with General Code for hosting
- Early performance monitoring: permit timelines, administrative approvals, variance requests, and housing uptake
- A first-year clean-up amendment to fix what only real use reveals
- Ongoing amendments, interpretations, and on-call support as the community's needs evolve
Why it works
Metrics embedded in the implementation plan give the community a feedback loop. Early indicators from recent adoptions, such as fewer variances for common infill, clearer staff reports, and faster administrative approvals, show whether the rewrite is doing what it was written to do, and where it needs a tune-up.
